It’s been a while, so… What have we been up to?

Well, it’s been almost a month since my last update, so I figured It’s about time to let you know how things have been going here in Romania.  Since my last update, we started teaching classes at Scoala Biblica Piatra Vie.  It’s our very first semester teaching these courses in Romania, and many books are not available in Romanian, so it’s been far less organized than I like, but God is working in and through us.

We have a total of 12 students taking 3 different classes.  They represent three different continents (Africa, Europe, and North America) and speak four different mother tongues (English, French, Romanian, and Swahili).  Yes, we’re pretty diverse!  Culturally (Romanians, Africans, and Americans), intellectually (from graduate school students to high school dropouts), and spiritually (a one-month-old believer from a Muslim background, Baptists who were taught to believe the charismatic gifts ended in the first century, Pentecostals who never learned to study the Bible, and even a few who don’t know what to call themselves)–we have a wide variety of students!

First Comm with God 1

Our First Communion with God class!

Communion with God: Growing in Intimacy with the Father

Our aim in this course is to teach students three basic skills:  how to study the Bible, how to pray, and how to hear the voice of God.  This is our biggest class, with 8 students.  It’s been a lot of fun, but pray for all of us.  Some of our students need to grow in their love for the Word of God while others need to learn to hear the voice and leading of the Holy Spirit.  Pray for each student to grow as God wants him to and for me to have grace to do more than teach principals but to impart lifestyle.  I want to see each of our students more in love with Jesus and more capable of living the rest of their life in pursuit of Him.

Evangelism: Spirit-Empowered Witnessing

This is one of my favorite classes, but it’s (unfortunately) our smallest!  Pray for our two students, that they would grow in boldness and in skills in sharing the gospel.  Pray for teachable hearts and a willingness to try new things to reach the culture around us.  Also pray for an anointing to share the gospel with power.  Our desire is to not merely to raise up believers who can share the truth of the gospel but who can SHOW the truth; we want to raise up believers strong in the proclamation and the demonstration of the kingdom.  So pray for our students and for me!

Power Ministry: Walking in Faith, Miracles, and Healing

Miraculous healings, dead men resurrected, demons and exorcisms, knowing things you shouldn’t know…  This class covers all the crazy stuff in the Bible that you never knew should be normal in a believer’s life.  Pray for our seven students to not only learn the theory behind the supernatural power of the Christian but to also learn how to put it into practice.  Also pray for Jake to have grace to lead this class and to be an example of preaching the gospel in power.

So… between preparing for classes and teaching them, I’ve been pretty busy this last month.  But it’s a good busy.  😀

  1. Way to go Ben! You are making deposits into people that will last for eternity, whether they know it or not. God knows and I know!
